Stella Pantopoulou

I just graduated with a PhD in Nuclear Engineering from Purdue University, where I worked in the AI Systems Lab led by Professor Lefteri Tsoukalas. I hold a MS in Nuclear Engineering from Purdue University (2021) with a focus on cybersecurity, and a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Patras in Greece (2018) with a focus on embedded systems.

During my PhD, I have been a visiting student at Argonne National Laboratory, where I worked in a Research Aide position for two consecutive summers.

I am on the job market for Summer 2025.

My research focuses on the application of machine learning for sensor monitoring in advanced reactor thermal hydraulic systems, with a particular emphasis on transfer learning. Transfer learning involves training of data-driven models on one domain to make predictions on a different domain. My work aims to develop forecasting models able to provide predictions for sensor readings within the limits of measurement uncertainty when limited data are available for a given domain. Additionally, I am investigating the effect of quantitative similarity between domains on the performance of data-driven models.
